SPRING TRENDS: The Inverse Smoky Eye

One of the hottest trends for spring is the unexpected smudge of a dark color within the inner corner of the eye, where a light color is usually placed to highlight. The inverse smoky eye is a supercharged runway look, although we are going to tame it a little! By pairing a dramatic eye with very soft tones on the lips and cheek, you’ll find that this fashion editorial look is far more wearable for everyday fashionistas everywhere!

First dust a pearly beige base color all over the lid and up to the brow bone. Use a large fluffy brush to distribute the shadow evenly, like VL’s #22 Large Eyeshadow Brush. Our Trio Eyeshadow Palette in Timeless offers three shadows in one easy to use compact; a matte black, deep brown and champagne. Just follow the numbers to create the perfect smoky eye! The #1 highlighter shade will create a warm beige wash with just a hint of sparkle on the lid.

Anchor your shadow by placing the Duo Eye Pencil in Raisin Carnet/Esmerelda into the inner upper and lower corners of the lid. Bring the color out to the about the middle of the eye and blend seamlessly with a #18 Small Eyeshadow Brush. This double-sided pencil features two complementary shades allowing you to create a variety of looks! Try topping off the lid with our multi-dimensional Cangiante Dimensional Eyeshadow in Ossidia, a dark shimmering golden olive. Gently pat over the base you’ve created with the #18 Brush.

Line the top of the eyelid with the Duo Eye Pencil in Jet Black/Black Brown. The velvety smooth color is ideal for smudging and blending, so smudge away using the #12 Liner/Brow Brush to create a softly diffused line.

Curling lashes always opens up the eye, and our Mini Eyelash Curler is narrow enough to help you curl in smaller sections, lifting lashes to build length. Add a light coat of Volume Plus Mascara to the top and bottom lashes, the rich, creamy formula contains peptides to strengthen and protect, while creating full body lashes in a single stroke! For a more dramatic eye that isn’t too over the top, apply Ardell’s Natural Lashes, #125. Pinch your own lashes and falsies together at the base gently and finish off blending the natural and faux together with another coat of mascara (if necessary).

Create a controlled flush on the cheek by using the Chiara Flush Stick in Ardensa (a neutral peachy shade) to build up to the proper shade level. A creamy, easy to blend hybrid stick of matte and pearly colors, the core contains an iridescent highlighter surrounded by highly pigmented, lush color. Swirl together and begin by blending just a touch, and continue to layer based on the shade of your natural skin tone. You don’t want the cheek too bright, just a subtle glow!

Lastly, add just a hint of color to the lip…what you really want is that ‘just bitten’ look resembling a stain! Dip the #36 Travel Lip Brush into Creme Pearl Lipstick in Tawny Spice and lightly apply it to the lips with a dabbing motion, then smooth out to the edges.

Don’t saturate the surface; just give your lips a slight sheen! Light-reflective pearls in sophisticated shades deliver intense, fabulous color, while making lips visibly fuller! Plus, our Creme Pearl Lipsticks protect from dehydration and aging with a special blend of Sweet Almond Oil, Aloe Vera, and Vitamins E and C to nourish lips!
